Top 100 Attractions in Korea (2026 Ranking): The Ultimate Bucket List

Korea packs an outsized number of world-class sights into a small footprint — Joseon-dynasty palaces in the middle of a modern megacity, Silla-era temples carved into mountainsides, volcanic islands, neon-lit shopping streets and quiet folk villages that look untouched by time. To make sense of it all, we built a single ranked list of the 100 most-recognized attractions across the 12 Korean cities we cover in depth: Seoul, Busan, Jeju Island, Daegu, Gwangju, Suwon, Gangneung, Yeosu, Sokcho, Pohang, Gyeongju and Andong. Whether you’re planning a first trip to Seoul or a longer loop around the southeast coast and Jeju, this ranking is meant to help you prioritize what to see first.

How This Ranking Was Made

This is a composite recognition ranking, not a measurement of confirmed visitor numbers or website traffic — nobody publishes a single, comparable footfall count for all 100 of these sites. Instead, we scored each attraction on four factors and blended them into one order:

  • Wikipedia footprint — the depth and number of language editions covering the site, which correlates strongly with historical significance and international awareness.
  • Review-platform exposure — how prominently the site appears in review volume and prominence on major travel-review platforms (Tripadvisor-style aggregators).
  • Official recognition — UNESCO World Heritage/tentative-list status, Korea Tourism Organization features, and recommendations from municipal and provincial tourism offices.
  • General traveler awareness — how often international visitors mention or plan around the site, based on its role in standard first-time itineraries for each city.

This ranking reflects our research as of July 2026 and will be revisited as new sites are added to Korea’s official attraction lists, as UNESCO status changes, or as we publish new city guides. Always treat rank order as a general recognition guide, not a scientific popularity index.

FAQ

What is this ranking based on?
This is a composite recognition ranking, not a confirmed visitor-count or traffic ranking. We combined Wikipedia article depth and cross-language coverage, review volume on major travel platforms, official recommendations from the Korea Tourism Organization and regional tourism boards, UNESCO World Heritage status, and general awareness among international travelers. Sites with heavier documentation, more reviews, and stronger official endorsement rank higher.

Will other cities be added later?
This edition covers the 12 cities where we currently publish full destination guides: Seoul, Busan, Jeju Island, Daegu, Gwangju, Suwon, Gangneung, Yeosu, Sokcho, Pohang, Gyeongju and Andong. As we publish guides for more Korean cities, this list will expand to include their landmark attractions.

How often is this list updated?
We review and refresh this ranking periodically as new attractions open, official recognitions change (such as new UNESCO listings), and as we publish more individual attraction guides with direct booking links.

Are prices and opening hours included here?
No — because prices, hours and ticket rules change often and vary by season, we keep those details on each attraction’s dedicated guide (linked where available) or on the official site, always confirmed at time of publication.
